Boere Gemeenskap Transvaal

OUR MISSION IS TO HELP THOSE WHO NEED IT

About us

“While we try to teach our children all about life, our children teach us what life is all about.” Boere Gemeenskap Transvaal was started in the year 2015 with the mission of taking care of children and adults in squatter camps, who are trapped in this ongoing cycle of poverty and hardship. We dream of providing shelter and homely care to people in need and strive to minimize the burden on these people. We wish to bring hope and opportunities which is important in breaking the cycle especially for the next generation – the children.

The Vision

Our vision is to lead by example and to assist in minimizing the burden on disadvantaged children and adults. We ultimately want to create a supportive structure, which will assist in healing the wounds of children and adults in need. We strive to assist in a positive manner and ensuring a better future for these people. As a Non Profit Oganisation we want to go that extra mile in changing the lives of these disadvantaged people for a brighter tomorrow.

The Mission

The mission of the organization is:

  • To provide a protective environment to children and parents, giving them a sense of what a natural home is all about.
  • Improving their physical and psychological wellbeing through acts of respect, nurture and positive guidance.
  • To provide quality food, shelter, health care, recreation facilities and fulfilling other needs of the needy. We are all about minimizing the suffering of those in need.
  • Giving those in need a sense that they are a vital part of our society, striving to treat each individual in need with the same respect afforded those more fortunate.
  • Create a supportive structure and educating those in need, ensuring a better future for the generations to come. Breaking the cycle of poverty is the only way to prevent that it does not get carried over to next generation.

The Story of the Boere Gemeenskap Transvaal

Boere Gemeenskap Transvaal started as a dream and is the vision of the founding member and chairperson – Leon Cronje. It all started ten years ago with a real life experience of seeing adults and children left in destitute conditions. He encountered a large number of children and parents living on the streets and the experiences they go through just to survive. It hit a nerve when he came in contact with children that escaped to drugs to numb the pain they experienced. This is a cycle that has harsh consequences, claiming the lives of young children. These children and parents are caught up in this ongoing cycle largely driven by the lack of education and desperate surroundings. Leon knew from that point that he was going to start an organization that will search for the answers to assist with the hard and difficult conditions that these poor souls faced on a daily basis. He wanted to eliminate most of these vexing situations of unfortunate children and parents.

Even though he was earning a meager salary from his employment as an estate agent, he managed to put aside money and gave that as a donation to the unfortunate and destitute children monthly. He also spent a lot of time with these children to familiarize himself with the problems they encounter and to better understand their world, their desires and dreams. Leon realised that despite their extreme hardships these children remained children first.

These children are exposed to constant danger and face all kind of physical and sexual abuse from the antisocial elements. He knew that he had to tackle this problem head on and work towards a more permanent solution. Many children and adults die on the street because of exposure to a number of unhealthy elements. We wanted to contribute in a small way to in an attempt to mitigate the problems of children and adults living in the street. In realising the enormous magnitude of this problem, we decided to spend a lot of time in educating them about safety both personal and societal.

The disintegration of family structures due to the environment and the prevailing economic circumstances have caused an increase in the numbers of these people. Leon’s vision is to run a child friendly shelter for these unfortunate children where they could find their lost freedom and grow into healthy and educated adults.

In 2015 the Non Profit Organization was started in a humble but determined manner. Through a driven passion the Boere Gemeenskap Transvaal has grown exponentially in the first three months of its existence. We feel proud that the organisation has been instrumental in bringing about an attitudinal change from the society towards children and adults and in ridging them with a positive outlook. In most cases positive guidance goes a long way in securing a better future for the generation to come.

As a Non Profit Organization we are delighted and blessed that we are able to assist and ensuring these communities to have hope and productive goals for the future. The long term sustainability of Boere Gemeenskap Transvaal is dependent on the generous support and donations that we receive from the communities where we operate and companies that support the plight of these people that we serve.
